English Speaking Skills

The first time I read a book in English, and honestly a book In general, was In 5th grade. I grew up in the Republic of Georgia, went too public school for most of my first four years, with teachers that didn’t really care If I paid attention or really, If I was there at all. It was hard for me to care when they TLD seem to, I wasn’t motivated to do anything, and in fact It would be accurate to say that In those first four years, I TLD learn anything.

Finally, with about three months left In my fourth year, my arenas talked to me about transferring to an English speaking school; I spoke English but could barely read or write. The whole thing seemed to be a daunting prospect but we decided that It would be for the best; and so, It was that In April of 2008, I transferred. This school was essentially perfect for me, It helped me get to a point where I wanted to read and so I did.

When I opened up that first book, a whole world of possibilities opened up with it; a world which I would never willingly give up.

I was only at this school for about a year before I moved again, beginning a long recess of moving from school to school, jumping from place to place. Moving around, from country to country, was hard, but not so intimidating because I knew that the English language would always be there; that it would be my rock in a churning sea that would never stand still.

That is one, of the many reasons that point to why I joined this English Class. Since the day that I opened up that first book, English has kept me captivated, those words across the page have seemed like they are created through some otherworldly magic.

English has fascinated me, the way that the letters weave and spin to create incredible stories that make us cry, laugh, and shout. The fact that I will never be able to let go of that magic, has led me to contemplate a career that centers around the English Language. Whether that will mean getting a major in English and working to teach and inspire upcoming generations, or reporting injustices that take place every day and yet are relentlessly ignored by most of us, or even sitting in a small Cafe on this corner or that and attempting to write a masterpiece that will be dead till the end of time, all that is still unclear to me.

However I do know that the English language has a grasp on me that will never be broken, and so I Joined this class to attempt to satiate my thirst for this language, and to perhaps attempt to become a better writer, reader, and speaker of this language. Because, honestly, all languages are an incredible feats that give a glimpse as to how brilliant we as the human race truly are. Over the years, my confidence In my writing skills has grown with the support of past teachers, friends, and family.

At this point In time, I believe myself to be a good writer, with quite the Imagination. I love writing, I love disappearing Into the page and simply letting the pen skip across the paper recording the many folds of my mind Into which I escape to hide from the endless atrocities that surround us on this earth. One day I would hope to give others the same kind of escape that I enjoy so countless words that are written upon thousands of pages, which span hundreds if not thousands of years.

Reading has been an interest of mine for years now, I have dead hundreds of books and have enjoyed each one. I also love getting up on the stage and speaking, I enjoy writing speeches that I can then present to an audience and speaking in a way that will hopefully stun at least some of them. I have several goals for this class; they are all fairly simple and there to help me succeed in this year and in my life. I would like to improve my writing ability further; I want to learn how to structure my pieces of work better, how to organize in a way that make it beautiful to read.

I would like to improve on my public speaking skills, I love public speaking and would like to get to the point where I can be at my best. Lastly, I would like to get an A in this class. I don’t think any of these goals are impossible in the least, as long as I work hard and put forth my best effort, everything will work out. Overall, I hope to make the most of this course. I want to learn as much as I can during this course, I would like to improve upon my current skill set, and I would like to, in general, simply enjoy this course and this year to the fullest.
